Matt LeBlanc (Charlie Darby) could use a little help from Joey, his best known character to date from the popular tv show “Friends”. It’s an unusual chick flick with well known tv icons, Matt LeBlanc “Friends”, Ali Larter “Heroes” and Adam Rodriguez “CSI : Miami”.
Curious about that jerk behavior of some guy you met. He could just be lovesick. After the Great Depression and before World War II, romantic comedies were in vogue. It would have fit in the late 1930s and 1940s in Hollywood, it could have been written for a young Cary Grant, Ray Milland or Jimmy Stewart. They played a similar role in romantic comedy after romantic comedy that no matter how many times they managed to screw things up they always ended up with the girl.
In a true sense, LeBlanc is playing against type as we knew him from friends but in type as he was before friends became popular. He did have a career before friends and was even on numerous episodes of “Married with Children” as someone that could do no right but always ended up on top.
It’s his friend, Adam Rodriguez (Jason Kerwick) who steps in to help his friend after he sees his lovesick pattern. He shows him it really is a disease with insecurities having him jump to conclusion as to what may actually be happening creating his own imaginary scenario and creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. Only after stepping in with past girlfriends with his latest interest Ali Larter “Molly” with him in tow did they set him on a new trajectory.
“Lovesick” represents the future of the lower to middle budget feature films in the world. It’s a day of release in theatres and on video on demand. This type of movie was never meant to be a blockbuster, but it’s meant to be something you will watch forever across all forms of media.
A romantic comedy perfect for Valentine’s Day and any other day for hopeless romantics.
