New ARTBOUND Explores the Unusual Arts Scene Along the U.S. – Mexico Border Featuring Drones, Galvanized Metal and Poetry

KCET, the nation’s largest independent public television station, new Tuesday night lineup, “Creative Explorations,” features the vibrant arts and culture landscape in Southern California and beyond. The lineup includes: the Emmy® award winning series, ARTBOUND music performance series, ARTBOUND PRESENTS: STUDIO A; world music video series, BORDER BLASTER; and urban walking series, CITY WALK.

WHAT:         

A new episode of ARTBOUND headlines KCET’s “Creative Explorations” Tuesday night lineup, taking viewers on a journey through the arts and cultural landscape of Southern California.

“Borderlands” explores the artistic landscape of the U.S. – Mexico border, featuring Mexicali Rose, an artist-run space in Mexicali teaching film and digital media to the local community.

This episode will also feature San Diego and Tijuana artists whose works examine the use of military surveillance drones by appropriating them in humorous and unexpected ways. 

Viewers will also learn about photographer Paul Turounet, who documents life of Mexican border-crossing communities and affixes their portraits to the border wall; Tijuana’s vibrant reemerging gallery scene in the passageways of the city’s historic core; and Imperial County poet Manuel Paul Lopez’s animated work, 1984. The show concludes with a musical performance by L.A.-based, Brazilian troubadour, Rodrigo Amarante.
