PERCUSSA labs behind the scenes: AudioCubes standalone hardware in development

Hi everyone! Bert here from the Percussa AudioCubes 🙂

As you probably already know, I’ve been working on a modular synthesizer application for the AudioCubes for a while, and I’m planning to release it later this year.

But besides all this I have an even bigger announcement to make: I’m working on a standalone HARDWARE unit for the AudioCubes, so you will no longer need a PC or Mac to use the AudioCubes 🙂

Software modular synthesizer for AudioCubes

We’ll release our software modular synthesizer later this year. It will be the first software we release that you can use to produce sound and music using the AudioCubes, without having to buy or install any other music software or hardware.

The software is called SYNTHOR and will be built into MIDIBridge. You’ve already seen some demo videos a while ago, which were shot using the SYNTHOR prototype I built in Max/MSP. I’m currently working on expanding this prototype and porting it to C++ code so it can be built into MIDIBridge.

When the software is released you’ll be able to download it from the site and use it as long as you have the WIRELESS audiocubes (if you have classic cubes without wireless you can upgrade for a fee).

Hardware synthesizer for AudioCubes

After the release of the SYNTHOR software we’ll release a hardware version so you don’t need a PC or Mac to use the AudioCubes and SYNTHOR. It will be a standalone unit which you an buy and use with your existing wireless audiocubes. Or you can buy a full system (cubes + hardware unit) in one go.

This project has been running in the background for a while and is super exciting. I can’t say much yet about the specs since it’s still early in development, but it will have a small full colour graphics display, a powerful quad core ARM CPU and great sounding 192 KHz 24-bit DAC.

I’ll be posting updates from time to time in the Facebook group Percussa AudioCubes users as well as on this newsletter. Make sure you join the FB group if you haven’t already. You can post any questions there.

I hope you are as excited about this as I am! These updates will make AudioCubes easier to use since you won’t need any additional software or hardware 🙂
