Plus Special Guest- ROGER DE COSTER
…only on the Dave Despain Show Sunday night, Aug. 2 at 8:30pm ET.
“That magic racing moment when a rookie steps into the big spotlight and all the stars align.” Dave Despain.
At 24 years of age Ryan Dungey has had that feeling – not once, but twice. Already he has won every title in the sport of Motocross and there is no sign of him stopping soon. As Dave’s guest on the Dave Despain Show this Sunday night, August 2, at 8:30pm ET he explains his love of the sport, the team effort it took to get this far and that ‘magic moment.’
Dungey’s belief in team effort is aptly illustrated as he is joined on Dave’s show by friend, mentor and Red Bull/KTM Team Manager, Roger De Coster. De Coster’s name is almost synonymous with the sport of motocross, winning five 500cc Motocross World Championships during the 1970’s and tallying a record 36 500cc Grand Prix victories. His stature is such in the world of motocross that he is often simply referred to as “The Man.”
Hailing from Belle Plain, MN, Ryan Dungey initially got into racing because his dad, Troy who raced as an amateur and instilled his passion for the sport into his sons. Today this family support continues as they often travel together from race to race. Gungey started his rise up the pro ranks in the summer of 2006, but his dominance really began in 2009 when he won both the Lites Supercross Championship and the 250 Motocross Championship. Dungey followed that with a stellar 2010 campaign, stepping up to the 450 class and winning the Supercross Championship and Motocross Championship in his rookie season. He then led Team USA to victory in the 2010 Motocross Des Nations.
After only a moderately (for him) successful 2011 season, Dungey made the decision for 2012 to follow his mentor Roger De Coster onto the Red Bull / KTM Factory team. The relationship has been incredibly successful, taking only 2 races for KTM to bring home its first ever Supercross victory. Dungey also reeled off ten consecutive victories during the 2012 Motocross season and won the Motocross championship. He continued his dominance into 2013, ranked 2nd overall in Motocross and 3rd in Supercross overall for the season. Dungey completed the 2014 Supercross season ranked 2nd in points and charged into 2015 with something to prove.
So far 2015 has again proved to be a breakout year for Dungey. He easily dusted off the competition in the 2015 Supercross Championship series taking the title with 13- straight podium finishes and clinching the title with three races to spare. As of this date he is in a commanding position to complete the double by leading the 2015 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championships after Round 9 by 69 points with three races to go.
Note: Following his guest appearance on the taping of the Dave Despain Show, Ryan Dungey was awarded Best Action Sports Athlete at the 2015 ESPY’s.
