Up against increased competition year to year from NBC’s best-since 2012 premiere for Sunday Night Football (NY Giants-Dallas), CBS’ NFL overrun-inflated lineup (Baltimore-Denver), as well as Fear the Walking Dead and the U.S. Open on cable, ABC’s Sunday 9-11pm telecast of The 2016 Miss America Competition shot up from its lead-in (+75%/+67%) and gained 1.7 million viewers and 31% in Adults 18-49 from its first half-hour to its final half-hour. During its final half-hour from 10:30-11pm as Miss Georgia Betty Cantrell was crowned, The Miss America Competition drew 7.9 million viewers and a 1.7 rating, 5 share with young adults.
Despite the heightened competition, Miss America was up from its year-ago Fast Affiliate delivery in Total Viewers (+4% – 7.0 million vs. 6.7 million on 9/14/14) and steady in Adults 18-49 rating (1.5/4 vs. 1.5/4), which went up in the National numbers (to 7.1 million and 1.7/5). The broadcast also built year to year in Men 18-34 (+29%), Women 25-54 (+5%) and Teens 12-17 (+43%).
In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49,The 2016 Miss America Competition delivered 4-month highs for ABC in the 2-hour time slot with entertainment programming – since the Billboard Music Awards on 5/17/15.
