Healthy Children, Strong America
Growing up on almost 700 acres of pure, natural beauty, I was hardly ever indoors. My childhood games were outdoor contests, like who could run the length of the pecan orchard the fastest. Even when it rained, my siblings and I played outdoors splashing in the mud puddles.
As a daughter of two nutritionists, I also grew up learning the importance of having fresh fruits and vegetables in my diet; fortunately, we lived in an area where there was always plenty of fresh produce around us! As a child, this was just my way of life.
The sad truth is that not all children have access to healthy food or the outdoors. For many children, computers, video games, and TV have taken the place of healthy physical activity. Healthy eating habits and physical activity are lifestyle behaviors that are largely within their control. These truths inspired my platform issue Healthy Children, Strong America. I am passionate about encouraging children to develop healthy eating habits so that they can grow into healthy and strong adults!
During my year of service as Miss America 2016, I plan on taking my message across the country to inspire children and adults alike to make smart, healthy choices! With stronger and healthier children, we can strengthen the foundation and future of America.
