Living in Digital Times’ Last Gadget Standing & Mobile Apps Showdown Contestants Show their Mettle at CES® 2016

VUZE and The Ripple Maker Named Last Gadgets Standing; iHeartLocal Named Top Mobile App

Last Gadget Standing and Mobile Apps Showdown, produced by Living in Digital Times, once again drew in one of the biggest crowds at CES® 2016, including a ton of laughs and of course, applause to help determine this year’s big winners. VUZE won in Last Gadget Standing’s 15th year, while The Ripple Maker, captured the online vote. For the 6th Annual Mobile Apps Showdown, iHeartLocal, took home the coveted prize as the best app at the live event, as well as impressed online voters.

New as this year’s emcee, is tech wizard and founder of Yahoo! Tech, David Pogue, the renaissance man of tech and entertainment, who helped keep the crowds amused.  The show kicked off with a fun video tour of CES from David.  Throughout the competitions, the audience was entertained with creative presentations with everything including an app controlled sword fight, 3D printed lattes and the making of a perfect smoothie—it even rained rubber ducks!  From a kids tablet and a sleep monitor to a robot and a Bluetooth speaker, attendees were treated to a plethora of raffle prizes.  Also, back on the stage this year was Lenovo with their Tablet Pro.  Lenovo’s ongoing sponsorship and commitment to innovation is appreciated.

“The Last Gadget Standing and Mobile Apps Showdown have become indelible moments at the show where the people’s vote is what matters.  It’s a fun way to shine a light of some of the emerging companies and technologies at CES,” said Robin Raskin, founder and president of Living in Digital Times.

“It’s awesome to see companies bare their corporate souls in such fun and imaginative ways,” said David Pouge, founder Yahoo! Tech.

Each finalist was selected by a panel of judges, including journalists, engineers, designers and developers. In early December 2015, our esteemed panels of judges narrowed down the pool of submissions to the Top 25 semi-finalists for each competition.  After passionate debate and discussion, the judges decided on the Top 11 products as well as the Top 11 mobile apps to compete in a live competition and online vote to prove their staying power at CES 2016. Winners of online voting were determined by popular vote, and in person, an applause-o-meter measured audience enthusiasm to determine the winner.
