First Single From Her Upcoming Album Detour, Featuring Country Classics From The ’40s, ’50s, And ’60s, Available On May 6
19-City “Detour Tour” Kicks Off At Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium On May 9
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 29, 2016) – Grammy®, Emmy® and Tony®-winning singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper has unveiled a new video for her rollicking take on the Wanda Jackson classic “Funnel Of Love.” The song is the first single from Detour, Lauper’s upcoming album of county covers from the ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s, available May 6 on Sire Records. Filmed at the legendary honky-tonk Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown, California,Detour, recently named one of country’s “10 Hot Albums Coming This Spring” by Rolling Stone, was recorded in Nashville alongside a band comprised of the city’s top session players. The album features guest appearances from county music royalty such as Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, and Willie Nelson.
Lauper kicks off her 19-city “Detour Tour” at the “Mother Church of Country Music,” Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, on May 9 and will wrap up at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre in St. Augustine, Florida on June 12. Select dates, including New York City’s historic Beacon Theatre, will feature a co-headlining performance by Boy George. Tickets are on sale now.
Among the highlights on Detour are stunning takes of two classic Patsy Cline songs, “Walkin’ After Midnight” and her #1 smash, “I Fall To Pieces,” as well as duets with several special guests including Emmylou Harris (on the title track), Willie Nelson (“Night Life,” a song he wrote over 50 years ago), Vince Gill (Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty’s “You’re The Reason Our Kids Are Ugly”) and Alison Krauss (Dolly Parton’s “Hard Candy Christmas.”
