Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance Celebrates Rare Automobiles

• The 7th annual Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance celebrated rare

  automobiles at Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills on the first Sunday of

  May on a perfect Southern California day.

  It’s one of my favorite car events of the year and a favorite of car enthusiasts

  in Southern California. This year there were 138 vintage cars and 17 rare

  and unique motorcycles with categories such as Post War American, Post

  War British, Preservation, Pre-War American, Grand Touring, Morgan and

  Packard. Additionally you enjoyed the latest from Ferrari and McClaren.

  Besides being able to enjoy cars, you could walk the gardens and grounds of

  Doheny Mansion, which is open once a year. Both the first and second floors

  were open to the public and there were more rooms open than I’ve ever seen

  even though I’ve been to the Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance

  previously.

  Greystone Mansion, built by the Dohenys whom discovered oil in Los

  Angeles, looks a little familiar after being in movie blockbuster franchises

  such as “Spider-Man” as Harry Osbourne’s estate and “X-Men” as the

  exterior of the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. During the rest of the

  year, Greystone is a public park.

• Auto News’ Legends of Auto host and auto guru Dave Kunz and Donald

  Osborne, Editor at Large of Sports Car Market magazine returned as the

  Masters of Ceremonies.

  Bruce Meyer was awarded Best of Class with his black and yellow 1935

  Bugatti Type 57 Ventoux. Meyer was also awarded Concours d’Elegance of

  America’s 2015 Enthusiast of the Year but is familiar in car circles not only

  for his collections but from being the Founding Chairman of the Petersen

  Automotive Museum which reopened as a world class auto museum this

  past December.

  Best of Show winners finished the day going head to head on the red carpet

  with Best of Show Concours de Sport awarded to Ron Hein for his 1961

  Alfa Romeo Sprint Zagato Coda Tronca and Best of Show Concours

  d’Elegance awarded to Ron and Sandy Hansen for their 1903 Thomas Model

• Beverly Hills Mayor John Mirisch is a car enthusiast too, you could see him

  taking videos with his cell phone of his favorite cars. His favorite of all, the

  Mayor’s Choice was a 1931 Chrysler Imperial CG Dual Cowl Phaeton

  owned by Aaron and Valerie Weiss.
