iWedia, a leading provider of software solutions for TV devices to service operators and consumer electronics manufacturers, today announced that it provides software integration services for Android client Set-Top Boxes (STB) for the Ericsson MediaFirst TV Platform. The announcement was made at IBC 2016 where iWedia is demoing the integration on the show floor at its exhibit (hall 5, booth B40).
Ericsson MediaFirst is a software-defined, media-optimized end-to-end portfolio suite for the creation, preparation, management and delivery of next generation Pay TV to any screen with an immersive TV viewing experience. The Ericsson MediaFirst TV Platform puts the future of TV viewing in the hands of consumers now, delivering intuitive services and features TV service providers can seamlessly implement and operate, enabling their customers to consume the content they want anytime, anywhere.
For operators wishing to deliver an Android client STB to the MediaFirst TV Platform, iWedia is in a position to play the role of complete software integrator. This consists in integrating together all software building blocks coming from the different stakeholders (the Software Development Kit (SDK) – including Android OS – from the chipset maker, the Board Support Package (BSP) from the STB OEM, the client application and the security library coming from Ericsson, performing the necessary customization as required by the operator, regularly generating STB software images, continuously testing and validating the STB until the delivery of a release ready for mass production, and managing the life cycle of the STB software post deployment.
“The complete software integrator plays a key role in the efficiency of the deployment of Android STB connected to the MediaFirst TV Platform,” says Hans-Jürgen Désor, CEO of iWedia. “In assuming this role, we assist Ericsson to deliver a flexible range of Android STB.”
“Speed, flexibility and agility are cornerstones of our MediaFirst TV Platform, which takes an open and modular approach to delivering great experiences on end devices,” says James Domine, Vice President, Product Line Management for TV Platforms, Ericsson. Many of our customers are expressing interest in leveraging Android for their next generation offerings, and they will see a measurable time-to-market advantage with iWedia’s software integration services for Android STB.”
