PUBG Corp. announced its plans for PUBG Mobile esports in 2020 during the PUBG Mobile Club Open Fall Finals in Kuala Lumpur.
The competitive scene will be divided into four levels, instead of only one as seen in 2019. The overall prize pool of the tournaments throughout the year will amount to over $5 million (GBP3,851,059).
The bottom tier of the game’s competitive efforts is the Campus Championship, which caters to amateur players. The next tier includes both the PUBG Mobile Club Open and Pro League, which will be held at a country-level. From there, there are Regional Pro Leagues and a World League, which will culminate in the PUBG Mobile World Championship.
This year the official league was the Club Open, which ended on December 1st with the Fall Split Global Finals. The winning team, Bigetron, took home $200,000 (GBP154,042) after toppling the competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Southeast Asia will be the main focus of PUBG Corp. in 2020, having its own Pro League that will bring together the best teams from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Esports Insider says: While the success of the 2019 season was moderate outside Asia on PUBG, the mobile version of the game is booming in numerous countries, hitting 600 million downloads in December. The developer’s commitment to building a path to pro is more likely to pay off in PUBG Mobile than PUBG due to the structuring, commitment, and transparency around the mobile title.
