Coke Energy is the company’s entry into the energy drink market, which the release claims is the “preferred beverage category for esports fanatics.” Pittsburgh Knights will highlight the drink in a content series surrounding the organisation’s Rocket League team during Season 9 of the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS).

James O’Connor, President of Pittsburgh Knights, spoke on the partnership in a release: “We know how much the esports community loves their energy drinks, so we’re thrilled to share Coke Energy with our fans. Kicking off this partnership with our Rocket League team is just a perfect start. Lots to come in 2020 and we’re really looking forward to working with Coca Cola!”

Additionally, Pittsburgh Knights will join Coke Energy on roadshow exhibitions at various Sheetz locations where fans can meet players and sample the new drink. Sheetz, a family-owned convenience store chain, is the preferred vendor of Coke Energy and a partner of Pittsburgh Knights.

This partnership isn’t Coca-Cola’s first involvement in esports. The brand has, most notably, established working relationships with Overwatch League, paiN Gaming, and Tespa.

Esports Insider says: It’s always a plus seeing a monstrously big name brands like Coca-Cola get further involved with esports. As for the partnership itself, well, you can’t go wrong with energy drinks and competitive gaming – they’ve been effectively symbiotic with one another since the very beginning.
