According to an announcement, the partnership started on January 1st with Kappa providing custom team jerseys for the organisation’s Dota 2 roster. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed at the time of writing.
Although Kappa entered esports through a partnership with UK organisation Vexed Gaming last August, this is the first instance of Kappa sponsoring a Chinese esports team. Having already successfully entered the Chinese music, art, and entertainment scenes, Kappa has now entered the local esports scene by replacing Li-Ning as RNG’s Dota 2 team’s official apparel sponsor.

Although it was established in 2018, the team’s achievements and RNG’s reputation have attracted numerous endemic and non-endemic companies as sponsors. In 2019, the Dota 2 Squad received five sponsorships, including Chinese sportswear brand Li-Ning, smartphone brand HongMo, Logitech, China Citic Bank, and Chinese brewery Laoshan Beer.
Esports Insider says: It’s evident that the Chinese esports apparel market is becoming more and more fierce in 2020. Although this is the first time for Kappa has been involved in Chinese esports, its investment indicates that it’s targeting the Chinese esports market. We look forward to seeing what move Kappa makes in esports next, considering it’s now in both the UK and Chinese markets.
