The Global Esports Federation has entered an “exploratory partnership” with the Commonwealth Games Federation.
The agreement will see the federation work together on areas within Transformation 2022, a strategic plan by the Commonwealth Sport Movement.

More specifically, they will initially work together on analysing the status of esports, initiatives and campaigns that push for equality, integrity, and innovation in esports, and the development of “sustainable esports properties” that could benefit the Commonwealth.
Chris Chan, President of the Global Esports Federation, spoke on the partnership in a release: “We are honoured to embark on this strategic partnership and support the Commonwealth Games Federation. This partnership further strengthens the Global Esports Federation’s mission of convening the world’s Esports ecosystem.
“This partnership allows us to develop a pathway together for an inclusive, progressive, and visionary future for the youth and the entire Commonwealth – North to South, East to West – reaching across a third of the world’s population.

The Global Esports Federation launched last December as an effort to become a “global governing body” for the esports ecosystem, with the backing of Chinese multinational conglomerate Tencent.
Dame Louise Martin, President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, added: “For some time now, the CGF has been looking for a way to formally engage with Esports, to explore how it can align with the Commonwealth Sports Movement and its support of the sustainable development of digital infrastructure, connectivity and commerce across the Commonwealth.
“In the Global Esports Federation, we know we have the right partner to help us undertake this exciting piece of work.”
Esports Insider says: We’re still dubious about the Global Esports Federation considering the significant involvement of Tencent, which is very much a key stakeholder in esports with involvement as an investor/owner across game developers, tournament operators and more. Nonetheless, it’s already making moves – such as this partnership – that suggests it’ll go on to become established in the industry in no time.
