The deal between Team Liquid and HUYA was first forged in June last year, resulting in the organisation’s League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Apex Legends, Hearthstone, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds players broadcasting their gameplay on the platform. It’s said that 22 players and content creators from Team Liquid are involved in the renewed agreement.

Mike Milanov, COO of Team Liquid, spoke on the extension in a release: “HUYA continues to be a critical partner in Team Liquid’s expansion within China. The broader team has not only helped us navigate the region’s competitive streaming market, but make a real impact with a new audience. We look forward to the next chapter of our collaboration and producing more memorable content and experiences for this expanding fan base.”

HUYA has brought on more Western teams and competitions in the past year, entering a multi-year deal with European organisation Team Secret last month and establishing a broadcasting deal with Riot Games for the LCS and LEC in January.

Ziyang (Peter) Zhao, Vice President of HUYA, added: “We are very glad to renew our partnership and continue to work with Team Liquid. Through HUYA Team Liquid can continue bringing streams to Chinese audience and different cultures can meet and communicate.”

Esports Insider says: Team Liquid’s first year on HUYA was definitely a success, and in keeping with HUYA’s strategy to bring more Western figures over onto the platform, this extension makes a lot of sense in terms of bridging the gap.
