Teams will compete in monthly 3v3 events across October, November, and January in multiple game modes the title has on offer. Prize money for each of these events scales up, with the October tournament awarding $10,000 (~7,601), $15,000 (~11,401) in November, and $20,000 (~$15,202) for the January main event competition. Prize money will be distributed among the top 12 teams in each region.

In addition to the 3v3 tournament, 1v1 ‘Duel’ events will be run in each region in September and December with respective prize pools of $2,500 (~GBP1,902) and $5,000 (~GBP3,803). The announcement has drawn interest from Team Secret, which already fields teams in shooters including Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Rainbow Six Siege, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).

The first duel tournament kicks off on September 12th, with registration closing 10 minutes just before the competition starts.

Esports Insider says: Diabotical has only been officially out for less than a week, but it’s good to see GD Studio building its esports scene from the get-go. As a kind of successor to Quake, there’s a lot to build from and expand upon with the new title. It’s worth noting that the aesthetic design of the game allows it to be geared towards younger audiences compared to Quake, which could prove helpful in garnering players and building an esports ecosystem. Laying some money on the line early on also demonstrates that the publisher is serious about its esports initiative.
