BMX rider Nigel Sylvester has become the latest athlete to join new esports and gaming organisation XSET.
Despite only launching in 2020 the organisation, which is focused on recruiting ‘notable musical artists, brands and celebrities’, has received a lot of attention from the likes of rapper Swae Lee and esports personality Erin Ashley Simon, both of which have gone on to invest in XSET.

It has not been disclosed as to what exactly Sylvester’s role in the esports organisation is, however, according to XSET’s website he is listed under its ‘creator’ section.
Discussing the announcement, Sylvester commented in a statement: “They spoke about the things that they want to do differently, how gaming isn’t diverse right now and they want to be the bearers of that flag. They want to create a very diverse organisation of gamers: men, women, black, white, whatever — people from all walks of life.
“I’ve been able to use my platform to highlight so many different things, from cycling to BMX, to music, to art, fashion, travel, technology. I think XSET is the same exact thing. They’re highlighting all these different things with a strong emphasis on gaming.”

As alluded to prior, XSET was founded earlier this year by former FaZe Clan executives and has already signed competitive teams in Fortnite, Valorant, Rocket League, and Call of Duty. Moreover, the organisation has partnered with several mainstream influencers, including professional skateboarder Minna Stess, highlighting that XSET looks to immediately establish itself as a multi-faceted brand
Greg Selkoe, co-founder and CEO of XSET shared: “XSET is already the most diverse org on the planet. We looked around and saw that everyone games, but if you looked at a lot of the orgs, they had a similar look and feel: not very diverse, not a lot of women and not a lot of different races represented. We wanted to set up an org from the beginning that was addressing these problems and leading the way.”
Esports Insider says: For a relatively short duration of its existence, XSET seems to be keeping up with its promise to pursue more diversity in esports, bringing in more and more athletes and content creators from various sectors and backgrounds. The value and potential of such an organization is undeniable, however, we will have to wait a bit longer to see how XSET is going to deal with the role it chose for itself.
