SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Carbon Health, the technology-enabled healthcare provider, announced today the launch of Carbon Health Vaccinate, a platform that allows local governments to more efficiently manage vaccine operations, and for any person to easily check their eligibility for a COVID-19 vaccine and sign up for a vaccination appointment. The company also announced its first partnership with the City of Los Angeles and CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) to support the city’s COVID-19 vaccination program, providing management technology, and administrative oversight to help stem the pandemic and increase vaccination capacity in Los Angeles to an additional 20,000 people a day.

This partnership and the new vaccination technology solution will allow the City of L.A. — and others across the U.S. — to accelerate the vaccine rollout during a crucial time in the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The vaccine rollout across the country has been frustratingly slow for medical providers and individuals alike, particularly as COVID-19 cases surge in L.A. and across the country. As we witnessed with testing, there has been limited national support, and local governments are bogged down by demand and logistics,” said Eren Bali, co-founder and CEO of Carbon Health. “The City of L.A., the LA Fire Department, and CORE have been doing an incredible job setting up vaccination programs, and, with our technology and clinical support, we should be able to accelerate access to the vaccine and ultimately help reduce COVID-19 casualties.”

Carbon Health Vaccinate is the first comprehensive, HIPAA-compliant healthcare infrastructure platform that can help local governments efficiently and effectively compute vaccine eligibility and manage vaccination operations. Features include:

  • High-volume appointment scheduling and queueing, including the ability to easily capture no-show appointments in order to adjust vaccine supply and use accordingly
  • Proof of vaccination to patients and to state and county immunization registries
  • Soon-to-launch auto-generated HIPAA-compliant digital vaccine card, the Carbon Health Pass, that displays vaccination details
  • Automated patient reminders for 2nd dose appointments
  • Management of waitlist and appointment bookings based on eligibility requirements

For individuals, Carbon Health Vaccinate allows anyone to confirm their eligibility, sign up to receive a vaccine, schedule first and second dose vaccine appointments, and obtain their Carbon Health Pass with vaccination details. As a unified, integrated system, Carbon Health’s platform simplifies the ability for people to sign up for a vaccine. It is currently available in Los Angeles, and eligible patients can book appointments for vaccines across several locations, including Dodger Stadium.

“Vaccines are the key to defeating this pandemic, saving lives, and charting a course to recovery,” said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. “With Carbon Health’s partnership and with the opening of our Dodger Stadium site, we will soon be able to deliver 20,000 vaccinations per day — and get a growing number of Angelenos protected from this virus as quickly, safely, and efficiently as possible.”

“Carbon Health is creating a key component – end-to-end registration and health records, which is essential to vaccine distribution,” said CORE Co-Founder and CEO Ann Lee. “As cases continue to rise in Los Angeles, and across the country, it’s essential to simplify and optimize the vaccination process for all communities, especially those who may not have access to smartphones or internet. CORE is proud to embark on this next phase of protecting and healing our communities, and we are working with our partners across the country to ensure safe and equitable distribution of the vaccine.”

“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the men and women of the LAFD have been on the front lines; both caring for patients and assisting our partners with an unprecedented testing effort,” said LAFD Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas. “As we pivot deeper into the vaccination effort, Carbon Health’s clinical and technology support is a welcome addition to the City’s partnership in the battle against this deadly virus.”

Carbon Health’s vaccination platform is available for other cities and counties across the country. Local government officials can learn more about the vaccination platform and working with Carbon Health by contacting vaccinations@carbonhealth.com.

About the City of L.A.’s COVID-19 Testing and Vaccination Program

The City of Los Angeles launched its testing program on March 20, 2020, to test first responders and vulnerable individuals. Led by the LAFD, and in partnership with Curative and CORE, it has become one of the largest municipal COVID-19 free testing programs in the country. At Mayor Garcetti’s direction, free testing was rapidly offered to all residents, with or without symptoms, whether or not they have insurance. Carbon Health opened its clinic in Echo Park to serve as the City’s first walk-up testing center, where it tested more than 7,600 people. Since then, the City has tested over 3.6 million people and can test up to 28,800 people each day across eight City testing sites and up to six mobile testing sites.

Program operations were expanded in partnership with the USC School of Pharmacy and Curative to include flu vaccinations in September 2020. Most recently, in December 2020, the City and County added COVID-19 vaccinations at four sites in areas significantly impacted by COVID-19. Since December 30, the City has vaccinated over 38,000 healthcare workers.

About CORE

CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) is a nonprofit organization co-founded by Sean Penn and Ann Lee that is dedicated to saving lives and strengthening communities affected by or vulnerable to crisis. Within hours of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Penn mobilized a powerful network to take immediate action. More than 10 years later, CORE continues to lead sustainable programs focused on four pillars: emergency relief, disaster preparedness, environmental resiliency and community building. The organization has expanded beyond Haiti to support communities in The Bahamas, Puerto Rico and the United States. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, CORE has been operating free testing sites across the country alongside local partners, providing essential resources and contact tracing services as well as part of its integrated “CORE 8” approach to combat the pandemic. In 2021, CORE is working with its partners nationwide to ensure safe and equitable distribution of vaccines as they become available to the communities the organization serves.
