NSE to host British University Esports Championship Final at Insomnia Gaming Festival

National Student Esports (NSE), the official body for university esports in the UK, has teamed up with the Insomnia Gaming Festival.

As a result, NSE’s British University Esports Championship Final (BUEC) will take place at the Insomnia Gaming Festival. The event is set to take place from April 16th -17th at National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.

Alongside the British University Esports Championship Final, NSE’s area will also include a ‘partner zone’ and a spectator area for those wanting to watch the tournament in person.

In addition, NSE will host a dedicated LAN party for UK university students at the festival’s Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC) hall. According to the release, the hall will have 120 seats reserved for UK university students.

Craig Fletcher, Founder of Insomnia, commented: “After not holding Insomnia for two years, we can’t wait to welcome everyone back and it’s brilliant to truly include the UK university community through our partnership with NSE.

“It’ll be exciting to see the BUEC Finals live and in-person plus the BYOC area will be another lively area that will keep everyone entertained across the weekend. The UK university esports community is passionate and committed so we’re proud to dedicate space to them in April and support grassroots esports.”

The UK university community will also be able to enjoy Insomnia’s exhibition hall, which will feature a variety of esports tournaments throughout the weekend. Other offerings such as tabletop gaming and cosplay competitions will also occur at Insomnia.

NSE was established in 2018 to support the growth of esports within the UK’s higher education sector. The company operates the British University Esports Championship, which has reportedly seen participation from over 2,100 teams from 100 universities over the 2021/2022 academic year.

Alex Coulson, Managing Director at NSE, commented: “It’s a real pleasure to announce that NSE’s BUEC Finals 2022 will be taking place live and in person and in such a brilliant setting with our friends at Insomnia.

“After two years of not being able to run events, the whole NSE team couldn’t be more thrilled to be talking about the return of LAN finals and especially to host increased opportunities to play for the student community through the dedicated NSE BYOC area at Insomnia Gaming Festival. This is a real opportunity for our community to come together at a major event to celebrate all things esports.”

Esports Insider says: This partnership is meant to promote UK’s university esports within the country’s larger gaming community. As such, choosing a large-scale gaming exhibition such as Insomnia is presumably a good way to go about it.
