Red Bull Solo Q is a one on one League of Legends tournament series that focuses on solo players instead of team play. The tournament is an expansion of Red Bull Player One, a similar League of Legends solo tournament that started more than eight years ago.
The tournament is open to all League of Legends players from around the world. Red Bull announced that players from 25 countries will be eligible to enter. The national qualifiers will be followed by regional ones, and the champion of each event will participate in the finals later this year.
The 2021 Solo Q Champion, Mads ‘Viggomopsen’ Mikkelsen, said of the event: “I had actually planned to stop playing League of Legends for some time this year. But I think this tournament has shown me that I shouldn’t give up quite yet and that I can still pursue a great and hopefully fulfilling career in esports and League of Legends going forward.”

Red Bull Solo Q does has not announced if there will be any prize money for the tournament, with the company citing ‘bragging rights’ as a main reward. Mads Mikkelsen, last year’s winner, was awarded EUR5,000 for winning the finals.
Esports Insider says: The Solo Q tournament is a very interesting experience for both the audience and the players. It’s good to see the tournament return once again and look to continually expand its series. The lack of information when it comes to prize pool is interesting and it’ll be intriguing to see if financial benefits start to become more prominent in later seasons.
