NetsGC partners with the State University of New York

NBA2K League franchise Nets Gaming Crew (NetsGC) has announced a partnership with the State University of New York (SUNY) for an educational programme held in the New York metro area.

As a result of the deal, SUNY has been named NetsGC’s Official Education Partner. Starting in May, the programme will foster educational panels with executives of the industry.

In addition, high school and collegiate esports tournaments are also included in the project. The first event was held on May 2nd, with the series culminating at NetsGC’s facility in the Barclays Center. The competitions will be hosted via esports platform LeagueSpot.

According to the release, the partnership’s objective is to gather and educate high school students to bolster career opportunities in the esports industry.

NetsGC is the first esports organisation to partner up with SUNY, however, this is not the university’s first step into competitive gaming. The ‘SUNY Esports league’, in association with LeagueSpot and infrastructure company Extreme Networks, has been held since 2020.

Deborah F. Stanley, Interim SUNY Chancellor, commented: “The SUNY Esports league has grown tremendously, now encompassing teams from 51 SUNY schools, and we credit this to the accessible, positive competitive experience it provides for our students.

“We are pleased to partner with NetsGC to introduce more students in the NYC area to the opportunities of a SUNY education and careers in the gaming industry.”

Esports Insider says: Love for the game is not enough: the esports industry needs competent professionals working in it to keep thriving. NetsGC knows that, and for the market it is inserted in to keep expanding and bringing results, young talents need to rise. As a plus, it is way better to keep close watch and an open channel with those who can contribute to the organisation.
