WHO:

KCETLink, the national independent public media organization, presents a new episode of CITY WALK, a KCETLink original production that showcases how walkable communities are transforming our cities across the country and in the process, re-connecting us with our bodies, public space and each other.

WHAT:

In the award-winning short, “Satellite Beach” actor Luke Wilson turns thousands of cheering throngs and a Space Shuttle into unwitting film players, as he follows the Endeavor on its three-day journey through several Los Angeles communities, from LAX to its final stop at the California Science Center.

KCRW’s traffic queen Kajon Cermak takes viewers on a tour of the Automated Traffic Surveillance and Control (ATSAC) System buried beneath City Hall, revealing the deepest secrets of Los Angeles traffic.

Los Angeles Times Pulitzer-Prize winning restaurant critic Jonathan Gold reveals why Old Pasadena is a great place to walk, and why the easiest way to get there is via Metro Rail. Viewers go on a fast and furious journey aboard the Gold Line, a public transportation adventure with breathtaking views of Los Angeles that can’t be seen in a car.

And a century ago, a ‘little tramp’ named Charlie Chaplin made his first appearance on camera during the Junior Vanderbilt Cup in Venice Beach. CITY WALK commemorates this moment by screening Chaplin performing as the tramp in front of real life spectators and unaware extras in the iconic film, “Kid Auto Races at Venice.”

Lastly, there are more than 300 staircases in the city of Los Angeles. In this special episode, a resilient group of city walkers are determined to climb them all in The Big Parade LA, a two-day walk in Los Angeles that includes about 80 public stairways and over 35 miles, from downtown to the Griffith Observatory.
