AMSTERDAM, Netherlands – Sept. 11, 2016 – PRLog — Advanced HDR by Technicolor received the 2016 CSI Award for “Best Digital Video Processing Technology.” Advanced HDR by Technicolor is a unique delivery system based on Technicolor’s open approach to High Dynamic Range (HDR). It delivers – and enhances – any HDR format and Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) content in a single stream to any device in the home. The two key technologies that make this possible are:
* Technicolor HDR, a distribution solution that ensures any major format of HDR and SDR content can coexist and be delivered as well as displayed accurately and simultaneously on all HDR and SDR screens. This offers service provides an opportunity to deliver consumers a consistent viewing experience regardless of whether or not they have upgraded to the latest technologies. The technology makes this possible through a single unified workflow.
* Technicolor HDR ITM, which can automatically up-convert SDR content to HDR, while preserving the intent of those who captured or created the content.
These two technologies address a range of issues that are critical in order for HDR to fulfill its potential in the market. Today, native HDR content is not yet broadly available, but is being made in various HDR formats. Since these formats must coexist with SDR content for the foreseeable future, Technicolor HDR has been designed to allow content distributors to leverage a single stream solution so that all content can be cost-effectively delivered to consumers in an operationally straightforward manner.
Because the vast majority of content currently exists in standard dynamic range, it is important to complement HDR distribution with SDR content that has been enhanced. Technicolor HDR ITM ensures that SDR content is immediately available as HDR to consumers who invest in HDR capable devices.
Together these technologies address interoperability issues between content — in multiple formats of HDR and SDR — and all display devices currently on the market. Technicolor is demonstrating Advanced HDR by Technicolor at its technology venue during the IBC 2016 conference in Amsterdam September 9 – September 14, 2016.
Established in 2003, the CSI (Cable & Satellite International Magazine) Awards are among the most prestigious and competitive technology awards in the industry, designed to recognize and reward innovation and excellence in the broadcast, video, OTT, and IoT sectors.
