Magic: The Gathering Arena is the digital version of the popular card game and was initially released in September 2018. Both titles are developed and published by Wizards of the Coast.

DreamHack Anaheim – the first DreamHack event to take place on the west coast of the United States – will play host to the first tournament on February 21st-23rd. Further competitions will take place at DreamHack Dallas on May 22nd-24th, DreamHack Atlanta on November 13-15th, and DreamHack Winter on November 27-29th.

Each tournament will be open to ticket holders for their respective events and will utilise a swiss format. Each tournament will be streamed as contestants battle it out for a cut of the $100,000 (GBP75,800) prize pool at each event.

Further information on the initial tournament at Anaheim is set to follow at the event page on DreamHack’s website.

Esports Insider says: With Wizards of the Coast aiming to use MTG Arena to bring its card game to a wider audience, a further $400,000 (GBP303,636) investment into the title’s esports scene is certain to draw attention. Partnering with DreamHack specifically should prove a shrewd move, as the organiser continues to host some of the largest gaming audiences in the West.
