European Masters on menu for Nevada bettors following regulator approval

A notice of approval issued today from the Nevada Gaming Control Board will permit sportsbooks to offer wagers on the League of Legends European Masters.

With this permission, the state’s licensed bookmakers can post and accept wagers on the tournament series which is currently gearing up for the group stage of its European Masters Spring season slated to start on April 22nd. The Control Board has approved its licensees to offer the following wager types: head to head, match winner, and overall winner.

As with all of Nevada’s esports exemptions thus far, sportsbooks are required to adhere to the specific conditions outlined by the regulator in order to offer betting lines. The tournament’s official rules must be made publicly available on the event organiser or sanctioning body’s website and notify all parties once a winner is declared. Licensees opting to accept wagers on the event are mandated to issue the Enforcement of Division with notification of terms prior to posting odds.

The establishment of odds will be set at the sportsbook’s discretion; principles surrounding the governing of these wagers must also be available to the public. Wagers will not be accepted by Nevada licensees after a match has started, thus preventing all forms of in-play betting for the League of Legends European Masters. Sportsbooks seeking to pitch additional wager types outside of the approved three will have the ability to do so baring submission of a separate approval process and the Control Board’s blessing.

This marks yet another step for Nevada regulators who, earlier this week, gave consent for books to offer odds on the League of Legends European Championship (LEC), League of Legends Championship Series (LCS), and Overwatch League in a string of approval notices. Counter-Strike Global Offensive, Dota 2, and iRacing are also on the program for Nevada bettors following clearance from the Control Board in the last several weeks.

Esports Insider says: Nevada regulators are attacking esports with speed and tenacity that is more impressive by the week. This news marks the fourth permission to come from the Control Board’s offices in the last two days; to put that into perspective, this week alone has seen Nevada approve more esports wagers than it has in its entire lifetime.
