Esports agency META raises EUR1M for continued growth

Benelux esports agency META has raised EUR1 million (GBP868,657) in an attempt to position itself as a market leader in the region.

Formerly known as 4Entertainment, the agency is perhaps best known for operating the Belgian League and Dutch League in partnership with Riot Games.

Investors in the round include executives from businesses in the Benelux region, as well as Belgian DJs Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike, and Lost Frequencies.

Steven Leunens, Co-founder of META, discussed the funding in a release: “Despite the current COVID19 crisis and the impact it has had on our event business, the future is bright for the META team. We have been able to scale up our broadcasting efforts as well as our custom whitelabel esports platform to maximize on the influx of new partners looking to do something in the esports space.

“The incredible success of these steps have allowed us to open up new avenues and has enabled us to assist a growing list of companies and brands to enter the gaming and esports world, keeping their connection to their (new) audiences alive.”

Alongside operating two national League of Legends competitions with Riot Games, META recently hosted a 9,000-player FIFA tournament for Belgian sports news website Sporza and broadcasted the latest #NotTheGP Formula One sim racing tournament in collaboration with London-based organisation Veloce Esports.

Esports Insider says: This raise should enable META to continue with its growth, further cementing itself as a solid solution for hosting and broadcasting events in the Benelux region. We’re intrigued to see what its next moves are.
