The esports industry is growing by effectively every metric and so too are the companies and organisations that inhabit it; with this comes new employment opportunities and promotions. With coronavirus affecting how most companies are operating, there are changes on that front also.
Now that Esports Insider is keeping track of the key personnel changes in the industry, we will compile the biggest personnel developments each month. Here are the esports movers and shakers for September 2020.
ESL appoints Alexander Inglot as CS:GO Pro League commissioner
Tournament organiser ESL appointed Alexander Inglot as the inaugural Commissioner of its ESL Pro League for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
According to a release, Inglot has been bought on board by ESL, and the 13 teams as part of the Louvre Agreement, “to drive creation of the new collaborative structure, optimise governance, and explore new revenue streams.”
MTG appoints Maria Redin as President and CEO, Lars Torstensson as CFO
Modern Times Group (MTG), the parent company of both ESL and DreamHack, announced a pair of new leadership appointments.
Maria Redin, currently the Group Chief Financial Officer, has been promoted to Group President and CEO effectively immediately. Lars Torstensson will take on her former duties as the new CFO.
G2 Esports appoints Mei-Ling Rider as Marketing Director
Berlin-based organisation G2 Esports appointed Mei-Ling Rider as its Marketing Director, as it looks to expand into the “first ever truly trans-Atlantic esports team.”
Rider has made the switch from Austria’s Bundesliga title winners Red Bull Salzburg, where she served as Global Head of Media and Audience Marketing. Moving from Salzburg to Berlin, she brings over 15 years’ experience in marketing, media, and audience insight to the organisation.
Alex Harris joins London Esports as part-owner, head of marketing
London Esports (LDN) announced that Alex Harris will join the organisation as part-owner and Head of Marketing.
Harris is a freelance marketing and communications consultant, having worked with esports brands including Esports Insider’s WFH League and KFC Gaming.
100 Thieves expands executive team with new VP hires
Esports, gaming and lifestyle company 100 Thieves expanded its executive team with three new hires.
Mark Rasoul takes on the position of VP of Marketing and Julie Van joins as VP of People along with VP of Content, Jeremy Azevedo, who joined back in June.
Fnatic appoints chairman and bolsters leadership team
London-based organisation Fnatic announced the appointment of a new Chairman as well as two additional hires.
Lucien Boyer has been appointed as the Fnatic’s new Chairman. Boyer previously served as the CMO at Vivendi, and he led Havas Sports and Entertainment as the Global President and CEO. On top of Boyer’s appointment, Fnatic has hired Soraya Sobh as its Head of Talent Management and George Mead as its Interim Partnerships Director.
Dignitas bolsters esports operations with staff restructuring
North American organisation Dignitas restructured its staffing arrangement to improve the operations around its esports efforts.
Robin “Fifflaren” Johansson has been promoted from Dignitas’ CS:GO coach to its Vice President of Esports as part of the alterations. James “Bakery” Baker, a former professional Heroes of the Storm player, has been promoted from Assistant General Manager to Director of Esports – he’ll work alongside Fifflaren to ensure Dignitas is competitive across all of its titles.
