In a period of expansion for The Story Mob, the company will also extend its scope of clients outside of esports and gaming to digital entertainment more broadly.
Ward’s resume includes working with publisher Activision, particularly around Call of Duty, as well as agency work for clients including Xbox and PlayStation. She’s also played leading roles in launching titles including Skylanders and Destiny.
On her new role, Ward commented that “while this is undoubtedly an exciting chapter in the Mob’s history, this move is the realisation of a professional ambition for me. The games industry continues to set the pace for other industries, and I look forward to bringing new brands into this world.”

The Story Mob’s Founder and Co-CEO Nicola Piggott noted that “From our first steps, The Story Mob has been extremely proud to be an international group with footprints across EU and North America. We’re excited to continue that growth by opening our new EMEA headquarters in London and to appoint Karen, who brings with her a wealth of experience from across the gaming industry.
“Over the past year, it’s become clearer than ever that digital entertainment and gaming culture are a critical part of our modern landscape and that developing a language around those experiences is key to success in a crowded market. We look forward to tapping into the experience and skills in Europe and to continue being a mouthpiece for clients in gaming and beyond.”
Esports Insider says: The new headquarters, hire and scope of work is a solid trifecta from The Story Mob. It will be interesting to see how the company looks to target the EMEA region, particularly the Middle East which has a great deal of potential and room to expand.
