British Esports Association announces COPE partnership

Not-for-profit organisation the British Esports Association has announced a partnership with the Coalition of Parents in Esports (COPE), a support organisation created to help advise players in the esports industry.

As a result of the partnership, British Esports will collaborate with COPE to produce a range of content offerings, such as streams, videos and articles, centred around the parents of esports professionals.

COPE was created earlier this year by David Herzog, the father of Fortnite professional player Crimz, and Shae Williams, the mother of Vanish content creator Duster. The organisation looks to share parental knowledge to esports professionals, advising players on contracts, tax on prize winnings, practice regimes, player wellbeing, plus post-competitive educational and career opportunities.

The organisation also looks to connect parents of gamers with each other to share knowledge. Following COPE’s inception, Anne Fish, the mother of British Fortnite player Benjyfishy, Johnny Troset Andersen, the father of 100 Thieves’ MrSavage, and Chris Spikoski, father of Misfits’ Sceptic, and more have joined its support network.

COPE co-founder and former IBM executive, Shae Williams, commented: “Like any sport, parental involvement is key to success. We want to encourage parents to get more involved in understanding their child’s passion and helping them get the most out of their esports experiences.”

According to the release, the partnership will also help strengthen British Esports’ advice section, situated on its website, with the organisation already offering a careers advice hub and esports parents guide.

On the partnership, Tom Dore, Head of Education at the British Esports Association, commented: “COPE has done a lot of good work in a short amount of time and we’re delighted to be partnering with them, to help spread the message of esports.

“We look forward to continuing to educate other parents and up-and-coming esports talent around the world, to help them make a successful career in esports and reap the rewards.”

Esports Insider says: The British Esports Association’s partnership with COPE looks like another string to their bow, and strengthens the goal to better promote and support grassroots esports. Overall, the collaboration allows British Esports to develop its advice section whilst also boosting COPE’s profile, which in turn helps support esports players and connect more parents associated with the industry.
