Abios expands data services to include FIFA

Esports data and technology company Abios has expanded its portfolio of titles with the introduction of its FIFA services.

Abios has revealed that live and pregame data for tier-one, tier-two, and tier-three FIFA tournaments will now be obtainable through its services. This includes competitions such as LigaPro, FIFAe World Cup, and the 2021 FIFAe Nations Cup.

Additional data points, such as stoppage times and scores, have also been added by Abios. The data firm also confirmed that ball tracking, which is currently in beta, is expected to be added soon.

Oskar Froberg, CEO at Abios, commented: “We have high expectations on the continued development of FIFA as a proper esport. It has since the pandemic become abundantly clear that games based on real sports are a tremendous bridge between regular sports fans and esports.

“Even though regular football is back on track, we believe that FIFA still holds its place as a filler product and sport for those who can’t wait for the next match. We look forward to continuing to improve our FIFA coverage and data quality through official data partnerships with the tournament organisers.”

Alongside FIFA, Abios currently provides data, compliance, odds and widget products for CS:GO, League of Legends, Fortnite, and Dota 2.

Abios collects live data by utilising machine learning algorithms. Through the use of object tracking, object detection and segmentation models on images from streams, the algorithms extract and analyse data in milliseconds, according to the release.

Esports Insider says: Whether it’s to provide more reliable betting odds, or to boost a broadcast, data services are becoming integral to esports. Following the simulation title’s rise during the pandemic, FIFA has looked to strengthen its esports division. Abios expanding its services to FIFA should be a sign that there is still a growing interest in the game’s competitive ecosystem.
