Irwindale Dragstrip Announces 2015 NHRA Summit Series Dates…

Irwindale, Calif. – – Irwindale Dragstrip has announced the dates its 2015 NHRA Summit Series championships. The six-race all-Sunday series will commence on March 8 and conclude on August 23.

The Summit Series features four divisions of drag racing that cover a wide spectrum of the exciting straight-line sport. There are three divisions for 4-wheel cars and pickup trucks, and one for motorcycles all based on elapsed time (ET).

The quickest division, Super Pro, runs ET’s in the 5.50 to 7.49 seconds range. Pro division times are 5.75 to 8.59 seconds. Sportsman competitors run times of 7.50 to 12.60. For motorcycle racers in the Pro Bike division, the time frame is 5.50 seconds or slower. (All of those times are for running the very quick eighth-mile (660 foot) drag strip at Irwindale.)

“We always have a great group of competitors for our Summit Series races,” said Irwindale’s VP of Operations, Bob Klein. “It’s really good competition, terrific fun to watch, and has produced some very sharp drag racers.”

Over 150 racers took part in the 2014 Summit Series races at Irwindale with Don Mehling from Glendora taking home first place honors in Super Pro, La Cresenta’s Marvin Roles winning in the Pro category, with Yuciapa’s Willie Hofer triumphant in the Sportsman division, and La Mirada’s Dakota Sun quickest of them all in Pro Bike.
